I am a Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, and hopefully Friend.
Jesus Christ is my first priority, my family second and my Country and it's protector's are close behind that. Thank you all who risk their live's for us.
I am from a family of 11 children and there are 10 of us left. Both parents gone in my twenties and was a preachers, farmgirl, daughter.
My father supported us after a logging accident and being on crutches for over thirty years before he passed away with no complaints. How he and mom did that with 11 kids in 13 years, no twins, is beyond me.
I never remember a time without animals and only a few years without ever living on farm.
My children also were brought up with farm life.
We found that the pheasants really enjoy the snow and just love eating with the chickens. There are several families around this winter. The chickens don't have a problem dining with them either!
The main hen house under snow! We are ready for spring to arrive and order more babies. We will be adding to the Australorp family and add some Pearl White Leghorns, like Lucy was, and then a whole bunch of mixed breeds of Bantams and other chickens. Chicken George has discovered he would like to either attack me or do the rooster dance since the grand kids have teased him so much. He especially enjoys my black rubber boots. lol
So far the weather has been decent and we are looking forward to Christmas. Thank you Lord for all the wonderful eggs we are baking and cooking with. Yesterday I went Christmas shopping and my grandson found a whole stash of eggs hidden that some of the chickens laid. There were 16 eggs under a little ramp. That had to of been mighty uncomfortable. EWW It will be nice to have their eggs to use. It was hard to have to throw out so many eggs not knowing how long they had been there.
My daughter heard the same growl/hiss sound that I did the night my four chickens were killed and one of her chickens ended up dead. The funny thing was it wasn't eaten all the way, just a nibble out of it and she heard the sound in the afternoon. My suspicions would be that anything but a weasel would at least carry off or eat the carcass. I don't know but the sound sure is eerie.
Since it is now fall and getting colder we found that we needed to put heat lamps in the pens suspended from the ceiling. This seems to keep the production mode going. Maybe they freeze up in this process, lol.. The Australorps are so pretty and the roosters know who their girlfriends are. My Rooster, Chicken George, has his harem of mix matched breeds and he thinks he's a prince!
